(Aeon Labs) Pairing The Home Energy Meter

Last Updated: May 17, 2013 11:47AM PDT
To pair the home energy meter to your Vera system, you must first give it power.  This does not mean that you are connecting the device to your electric box!  That job is for a licensed electrician, and its installation is described on a later page.

For this process -- pairing the home energy meter -- you can use either the supplied USB cable plugged into your computer or a USB hub, or, you can use 4 AA batteries (not included).  Batteries are a good choice because they also serve double duty as a backup in case the power in your home ever goes out.

Install the batteries now by turning to the rear of the home energy's main unit:

Remove the mounting clip by sliding it down and out of the way, revealing the battery compartment as shown:

Using a philips-head screwdriver, remove the small screw in the battery compartment as shown below:

Install the 4 batteries as shown:

Now you're ready to pair the home energy meter to your Vera Smart Controller.

To Pair With The VeraLite Smart Controller

On the VeraLite, press the "+" button and the orange "Ready" will light start blinking once per second -- this means that the Vera Lite is in include mode.

Now tap the "+" button on your VeraLite and
you will see the "Ready" light blinking once per second.  The VeraLite is now in "pairing" mode and ready to recognize the energy meter.

Bring the home energy meter within 3 feet of your Smart Controller and press and hold the small black pairing button on your home energy meter
 for a count of 5.

The orange light on your VeraLite will flash quickly to show the pairing was successful, and then return to blinking slowly.  Push the "+" button on the VeraLite for 5 seconds to save the pairing and return to normal mode.

To Pair With The Vera3 Smart Controller

Bring the key fob controller to within 3 feet of the Vera3, then press the "Z-Wave" button.  You will see the green "Z-Wave" light flash once per second.

Now tap the "+" button on your Vera3 and you will see the "Ready" light blinking once per second.  The VeraLite is now in "pairing" mode and ready to recognize the home energy meter.

Bring the home energy meter within 3 feet of your Smart Controller and press and hold the small black pairing button on your home energy meter
 for a count of 5.

The green Z-Wave light on the Vera3 will flash quickly to show that the plug-in module was recognized.  Hold in the "Z-Wave" button for 5 seconds to save the pairing.

When your pairing is successful, close the energy meter's battery compartment and screw the back cover on.  Then replace the mounting bracket by sliding it into place.

The home energy meter's device will show up on your Vera Dashboard as shown:
